Our Philosophy
“Generations of Adventure...
It’s In Our Nature”

It’s important to realize that everyone should be treated equal regardless of looks, color, or disability. Special-needs children should be given equal opportunity whether it be in a classroom, work setting, or recreational complex. Simple daily gestures can help make the special needs community feel included. The underlying rights of disabled children are to feel safe and free from harassment, abuse and bullying. Some of these specific rights include: abuse and misuse, protection from bad influences, and the right to fully participate in social, cultural, and family events such as camps.

There are many actions a community can take to make members of the disabled community feel equal and important. The ultimate goal of someone with special needs is to help them feel as independent as possible. It begins with awareness. By being aware of what special needs is and how these people need a little extra help, you can make them feel wanted.

Our goal here at Camp Christopher is to help better include the special-needs community. We want them to feel just as important as their peers outside of camp. This camp will help them to appreicate themselves more and make tons of new friends. There is so much inequailty in this world and we want these children to feel as equal as everyone else.

Not only do we want toe make the campers feel special but we hope the volunteers will gain something from this. We hope that by the end of the sessions our volunteers can relate to this quote, “I’ve learned to value my life, to avoid taking things for granted, and perhaps most important, that all people-- just because they do not look like the rest of us or act like the rest of us-- have extraordinary potential."
